My Bio
I graduated from the University of Puget Sound, in Tacoma, Washington, in 1984. I spent the next 2 years teaching at the American School of Guadalajara, Mexico. I taught pre-K my first year there, then 3rd grade the following year. In the following years I worked as a bilingual teacher for Carlsbad Unified School District and then Vista Unified School District. In 1997 I started teaching for the San Diego Unified School District. I currently teach 6th grade math and social studies at Dana Middle School, and this year I will also teach the Tech Support Squad, training students to trouble-shoot and repair the Learning on the Go computers (LOGO) our 6th grade students get to take home.
I have been the Digital Lead Teacher at Dana for the past several years (since the district started the program), and I also serve on our school's Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) as the 6th grade math chair. For the last 3 years I have been given an additional prep period so that I can give tech support to the teachers on our site, helping them to build and maintain personal learning management systems (lms.sandi.net and My Big Campus), to learn and use the district's new SIS (PowerSchool), and in any other way support is requested. My favorite thing to do is to work in classrooms, helping both teachers and students to integrate technology into their daily work.
On a personal note, I live in Clairemont with my husband, Chris, and my twin sons Ryan and Paul. Ryan and Paul recently graduated from Point Loma High School and are now attending Mesa College. As a family we enjoy going to movies, hanging out with our dog, Leo, and our cat, Charlie, and we are active in our church. I also play the flute when I can and I enjoy singing in my church choir and ringing handbells there as well.
