For this phase of our Design Thinking work our group first revisited our design challenge, keeping that first and foremost in our minds. We spent time reflecting back on the DT process, and our work as a group, and listed what we felt would be markers of success, both of the process and the product. We discussed the feedback from our cohort, as well as from a teacher from outside of our group, and used that feedback to tweak our project. My contribution in this phase was to develop a Padlet to organize the feedback, to participate in the reflection and discussion of our product, and I created a pitch design for a school site leadership team.
Our specific challenge this week was we were not able to all be together in person for this final step. This has been a recurring theme, and definitely continued to be a challenge at this step. I am very much an electronic communicator, but I think a process such as this one benefits from having all stakeholders in the same room at the same time. Therefore, to better the process I would want to be sure the team assembled was able to commit the time needed to see this work completed from start to finish. I think the reflection piece is very helpful to this process, as it provides an additional opportunity to look at what has been created and do final tweaks as necessary, but also because it will help with future endeavors. I think it would be beneficial for individuals to reflect individually first, then come back to the group to share their ideas and have a meaningful discussion about both the product and the process. I do believe that effective communication is essential to the DT process. Having a common google doc was helpful to my group in tracking our work from start to finish, as was our padlet for maintaining artifacts. Emails and texts were also helpful in keeping lines of communication open, but limiting. Having a clear understanding of the communication norms the group would respect through the process is important, and knowledge of the 7 C’s of communication would be helpful to group members to ensure effective communication. |
