After much soul-searching and a scary visit to the ER with my mom, I've decided to change my 20% project. You may question my sanity (I know I do), but I think I need to jump on this opportunity to make a connection with my mom and learn a new, hopefully useful, skill. This new project will give me the chance to create something, which was a piece I felt was missing in my original project.
So my new project is ...... I'm going to learn to knit a sweater, with my mother as my guide.
Essential questions:
So my new project is ...... I'm going to learn to knit a sweater, with my mother as my guide.
Essential questions:
- What materials are needed and where is the best place to get them?
- Are there videos that can supplement my learning?
- What time commitment is necessary to learn this new skill?
- How will I document my learning experiences (podcast? video? blog?)
- How long will it take me to knit a scarf?
- Are there patterns used by knitters, or step-by-step guides?
- Are there Google+ Knitting Communities that can support me in the new learning?
- Is it best to start right away knitting a scarf, or are there things I can do to practice knitting techniques before actually creating something like a scarf?
- Can I use this time with my mom to learn more about her, and her connection to her grandmother who taught her to knit?
- What kinds of volunteer-type knitting opportunities could this lead to (for example, my mom knits sweaters for babies in the hospital.)
